https://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/sostek/article/view/27135

As social media transitions from an information-sharing platform to a medium for disseminating ideological intent, specifically hate speech, it necessitates a digital solution to augment human capabilities in identifying and tracking this phenomenon. Hate speech is a linguistic phenomenon involving negative intention targeting social identity. This experiment-based research aims to develop a corpus as a knowledge base for language models with potential use in automated hate speech detection. This objective is elaborated in two research objectives, namely 1) identifying illocutionary points within corpus containing social identity content by employing Searle’s speech acts approach and 2) evaluating corpus quality in natural language processing perspective by utilizing hybrid BiLSTM-IndoBERT algorithm. Achieving these objectives requires a methodology that integrates qualitative description with quantitative machine learning measurement. The data was obtained from readjusted corpus, which are originally mined from Twitter with a focus on hate speech in specific context. The findings are presented in accordance with the research objectives. First, the research finds that within the corpus, hate speech is dominated by negatively expressive utterances targeting religion and discriminatory toward ethnicity. Second, the hybrid model result 88% F1-score. This research leverages and enhances previous studies to develop and utilize reasonable hate speech corpus in certain scheme. Future studies should further elaborate on the concept of rigorous gradation concept to deeply classify hate speech into more explainable concept.
Fauzan Novaldy PratamaEri KurniawanAndika Dutha BachariRuswan DallyonoHeri Heryono

243Eco-Innovation Toolkit as a Socio-Technical Intervention for Sustainable Urban Villages in Surabaya
https://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/sostek/article/view/27116

This study presents the development and evaluation of the Eco-Innovation Toolkit for Sustainable Urban Villages (EcoIT-SUV) as a socio-technical intervention for community-based environmental innovation. The research aims to design a participatory and operational toolkit that enables local residents in Surabaya’s urban villages to manage ecological innovation through collaborative learning and structured planning. Using an action research approach, the study engaged residents and experts in two stages: participatory development through focus group discussions and expert evaluation using quantitative and qualitative feedback. The results show that EcoIT-SUV effectively enhances green dynamic capability, fosters environmental innovation, and integrates local social structures with technological practices. Expert evaluations using the Friedman test indicate consistent material and design quality across indicators, validating its readiness for community application. This study contributes to understanding how socio-technical systems can support urban sustainability through participatory design and localized innovation management.
Filipus Priyo Suprobo

243From Control to Empowerment: A Socio-Technical Perspective on Quality Assurance and Human Resource Performance
https://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/sostek/article/view/27085

This research positions Quality Assurance (QA) as a technical subsystem whose influence on performance is mediated by social mechanisms, namely research motivation, research competence, and research culture. This study employed a quantitative explanatory design through a survey of 184 permanent lecturers at private universities in the Jakarta area. Data analysis used SEM-PLS. The findings indicate that QA has positively and significantly improved research culture, research competence, and research performance while negatively affecting research motivation. Research culture and research motivation are weaker mediators, while research competence is the strongest mediator. The results reinforce the fundamental proposition of STS that the performance of the organization is the outcome of the simultaneous optimization of both the technical and the social subsystems. QA contributes to improving research performance primarily through structuring learning processes and developing adaptive research capabilities, rather than directly increasing intrinsic motivation. This research positions QA as a learning-oriented socio-technical infrastructure, rather than simply an administrative compliance mechanism. Practically, the findings recommend that private universities redesign their QA systems by emphasizing capability development, collective learning, and cultural alignment to achieve sustainable research performance improvement.
Farida FaridaHerry Agung PrabowoHasbullah HasbullahHasnida Ab-Samat

243The THE PRESPECTIVE OF THE FRESH STUDENTS ON THE USE OF LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: A CASE STUDY IN A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY
https://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/sostek/article/view/27045

This study assesses a learning management system (LMS) from the viewpoint of first-year students, focusing on their level of acceptance toward LMS usage. Notably, 65.81% of respondents have been familiar with online learning platforms since junior high school, indicating a high degree of digital experience. During university orientation, students were introduced to the LMS through various learning activities, including campus introduction modules, online quizzes, and assignment submissions. To assess usability, Data were gathered from 2,267 students who used a Likert scale to complete the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire.. Quantitative and descriptive analyses produced an overall SUS score of 57.57, placing the LMS within the Low Acceptance Range and corresponding to an interpretation scale of E and an “OK” Adjective Rating. These results suggest that, despite their digital familiarity, students found the LMS somewhat complicated and occasionally difficult to navigate. The findings highlight an urgent need for institutions to simplify learning instructions and integrate structured LMS usage guidelines into course syllabi to support students’ learning processes and reduce potential disengagement or dropout. Additionally, universities must strengthen outreach and training initiatives that enhance students’ comfort and confidence when using the LMS. By addressing these two critical dimensions—system usability and user support—institutions can ensure that their investments in digital technologies meaningfully improve the overall quality of teaching and learning. Ultimately, well-managed LMS implementation will enable higher education institutions to adopt more progressive and effective hybrid learning models that align with the expectations and needs of today’s digitally oriented student generation.
Aditya PermadiOpe DestrianAndi Kasman

243Navigating Professional Boundaries: A Case Study of Teacher-Student Relationship
https://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/sostek/article/view/27046

ABSTRACT

Teacher-student relationships are widely acknowledged as crucial for effective learning. However, maintaining these relationships while upholding professional boundaries often presents ethical and practical dilemmas for teachers. This qualitative case study examines how a junior high school teacher in Indonesia perceives and navigates dilemmas in teacher-student relationships. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview conducted via an online platform and analyzed using open coding techniques. The findings reveal four interconnected dilemmas faced by the teacher, such as balancing professional responsibility with emotional closeness, exercising authority without harming students, maintaining solidarity while preserving classroom discipline, and navigating unclear institutional expectations in daily teaching practice. This study underscores the axiological dimension of teacher professionalism and suggests the need for clearer school policies and teacher preparation programs that address ethical boundary management in teacher-student relationships.

Keywords: dilemmas, student-teacher relationship, teacher’s perspective, axiology
Benedicta Cindy Tamara
