Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy
Journal of ICT Research and Applications
Responsible and Transparent Use of Artificial Intelligence
JICTRA recognizes the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in research and scholarly communication. The use of such tools must be transparent, responsible, and subject to human oversight.
Policy Overview

JICTRA recognizes the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in research and scholarly communication. The use of such tools must be transparent, responsible, and subject to human oversight.

Part A. For Authors
Responsibilities, authorship, disclosure, and research methodology
01 Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific validity of all content submitted to JICTRA, including any content generated or modified using AI-assisted tools.

Human Accountability
The responsibility for the submitted manuscript remains entirely with the human authors, regardless of whether AI-assisted technologies have been used.
02 AI Tools and Authorship

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, disclose conflicts of interest, or respond to questions regarding research integrity.

Authorship Requirement
Only individuals who meet the journal's authorship criteria may be identified as authors or co-authors. AI systems are not eligible for authorship.
03 Basic Language Improvement

The use of AI solely for basic language improvement, such as grammar, spelling, or readability, does not require disclosure, provided that the scientific meaning is not altered.

Disclosure Not Required
Basic grammar correction, spelling correction, and readability improvements that do not change the scientific meaning of the manuscript.
04 Disclosure of Substantive AI Use

Substantive use of generative AI for writing, restructuring, translation, data analysis, coding, visualization, literature mapping, or other research-related purposes must be disclosed in the manuscript.

AI Uses Requiring Disclosure
01 Manuscript writing and substantive restructuring
02 Translation
03 Data analysis
04 Coding and programming
05 Data visualization
06 Literature mapping and other research-related purposes
05 AI Use in Research Methodology

Where AI is part of the research methodology, authors must describe the tool or model, version where applicable, provider, purpose of use, relevant parameters or procedures, validation methods, and limitations in sufficient detail to support reproducibility.

Methodological Information to Report
Tool or Model: Name of the AI system used
Version: Model or software version, where applicable
Provider: Organization or developer providing the tool
Purpose: Specific role of the AI tool in the research
Parameters or Procedures: Relevant settings and procedures
Validation: Methods used to verify outputs or results
Limitations: Known limitations affecting interpretation or reproducibility
Part B. For Reviewers and Editors
Confidentiality, ethical responsibilities, and human judgment
06 Confidentiality of Manuscripts

Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, confidential peer-review information, unpublished data, or identifiable author information to publicly accessible generative AI systems where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

Confidentiality Requirement
Manuscripts, unpublished research data, reviewer comments, and identifiable author information must be protected throughout the editorial and peer-review process.
07 Human Editorial and Peer-Review Judgment

AI tools must not replace human editorial judgment or peer-review assessment.

Human Oversight
Editorial decisions and scientific assessments must remain under the responsibility of qualified human editors and reviewers.
Core Principles
Transparency: Substantive AI use must be disclosed.
Accountability: Human authors remain responsible for their work.
Integrity: AI-assisted content must meet scientific and ethical standards.
Confidentiality: Unpublished manuscripts and peer-review information must be protected.
Human Oversight: AI cannot replace editorial judgment or peer-review assessment.
